Some theatre each day keeps the doctor away…

Food for Moloch

with 2 comments

Saw Beethoven 1 & 2 with the Sydney Symphony tonight – Emmanuel Ax playing his piano concertos with David Robertson conducting.  Very good.  I do enjoy these concerts, I do.

Is there a mythological character, I wonder, that represents the process whereby a society/civilisation gorges itself on culture produced by its artists, and continues to eat ad infinitum?  A sort of ravenous Moloch that occasionally spurts gold from its nose.

That might make for some weird allegorical play one day.

The cold did not return.  It is now whence.

(From whence it came, you see.)

  1. Cold is surely now thence (from whence it came).

  2. It came from whence and went thence again?

(I think I’m about to get a very sore grammatical headache.)
