Some theatre each day keeps the doctor away…

Still Still Kicking

And if Shakespeare were alive today, how much of his plays would he rewrite?

I wonder what I would do, if I were to live forever, and so have control over my plays forevermore.  Would I constantly update them?  A large part of me recoils from the idea – my mystical approach, ie ‘don’t fix it if it ain’t broken’ – but another part, which wants the audience to have the best possible experience, would be willing to change it.  But what a slow process it would be.  One wonders if we ever live long enough to see our native language change to the unrecognisable.  How long, for instance, did Shakespearean English take to become somewhat foreign to our ears?
