Some theatre each day keeps the doctor away…

John Adams Conducts Adams

Saw John Adams Conducts Adams with the Sydney Symphony today.  Rather good.  Respighi’s Pines of Rome at the end was brilliant, and Adams’ two concertos – a violin one (which I thought had its moments, particularly in the slow middle section), an Australian premiere, and his saxophone concerto (better than the violin, I thought), a world premiere – were good too.

Finished Siegfried off tonight.  Sword to the throat.  Quick work.  Fellow didn’t feel it for long.  Pleasant sleep on my end.  On to Gotterdammerung soon.

Finished Northanger Abbey tonight too.  Thought it very good, though a bit rushed at the end.  And I’m even more convinced of the influence of Don Quixote.  But then that’s not a very amazing assertion to make.

13/439 in Mansfield Park by Jane Austen.

Bugger all else to talk about.
