Wagner Madness

Saw Wagner Madness tonight with the Sydney Symphony.  Good.

Watched Das Rheingold tonight too, at home, on Blu-Ray.  (My Ring Cycle arrived today in the post.)  That was quite good too, although I’m fairly certain I had exactly the same reaction to it that I did when I watched in the cinema many moon ago.  So either I’m putting too much expectation on the Ring Cycle, or my taste was perfectly formed from the start and this is how I’m supposed to react to the first one (I’ve heard that Das Rheingold is more of a prelude), or who knows what.  I was falling asleep through parts of it, though – not because of the opera, but because I was tired.  So that wouldn’t have helped.  Anyway – I can move on to the ones I haven’t seen now, and keep it all fresh and lovely and wonderful and amazing.

And then maybe I’ll finish watching Parsifal at some point, yes?

Wrote a sonnet on the train on the way home, but I think I’ll leave it for tomorrow.
